CATASTROPHIC IMPAIRMENT ASSESSMENTS
Careful assessment planning for complex Ontario accident-benefit files
In Ontario, catastrophic impairment is defined under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (the SABS) utilizing the 4th and 6th Editions of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment. Which test applies depends on the accident date, the nature of the impairment, and which part of the definition is in question. These files usually involve more than one medical or functional discipline. Coordination matters here — each assessor needs a clear role, and the combined evidence has to address the relevant criteria without repeating itself.

Assessments supporting an Application for Determination of Catastrophic Impairment (OCF-19)

Insurer examinations responding to an OCF-19

Responding or rebuttal assessments addressing opinions already on file

Physical, neurological, psychological, psychiatric, or cognitive assessment

Occupational therapy and functional assessment

Impairment-rating opinions within the assessor's scope

Multidisciplinary review where appropriate
QA Review
Our QA and administrative team checks every file for missing referral responses, inconsistencies, and unclear passages before it reaches you. The clinical opinion stays entirely the assessor's — we just make sure nothing slows the file down.
